What is "when placing aed pads on an adult?

When placing AED pads on an adult, follow these guidelines:

  • Placement: Place one pad on the upper right chest, just below the collarbone. Place the other pad on the lower left side of the chest, below the armpit. Make sure the pads don't touch each other.
  • Bare Chest: Ensure the person's chest is bare. Remove clothing, and if necessary, shave any excessive hair that may prevent the pads from sticking to the skin. See "bare%20chest"
  • Pad Size: Use adult AED pads for adults and children over 8 years old or weighing more than 55 pounds (25 kg).
  • Avoid Obstructions: Do not place pads over implanted devices like pacemakers or internal defibrillators. If you see a bulge under the skin, place the pad a few inches away from it. See "obstructions"
  • Skin Condition: Ensure the skin is dry. Wipe away any moisture or sweat before applying the pads.
  • Following the diagram: If there is a diagram on the pads, follow it as it is shown.
